The Data Service has published the structure templates of Learning Aims Reference Application (LARA) (http://www.thedataservice.org.uk/News/enhancements_dc_systems/). This is the current version of the Access mdb template file.

Please note that these structures are not the final version and have yet to be tested. Therefore changes may be made during the migration and testing stages.

A version populated with live test data will be made available on 24 June.

Some information is better than none but like the draft LIS structure that was missing any derived data the draft LARA does not even include the various codes to be used or any realistic example data.

I may have missed it but I was unable to find any reference to funding differences between provider/employer delivered ALR in the LIS or LARA tables/fields or how different GLH within framework or qualification pathways are to be identified for funding purposes. I would have expected that the software writers would be provided with the same level of detail and specifications that will have been provided to those responsible for developing the LIS and LARA applications.

If the plan is to provide the draft working examples in June /July this leaves us only a month to implement changes, recode our software, test it, train staff all in time for learner starts from the 1st August. This situation may be acceptable to corporate software suppliers with large resources but for independent and own software writers I do not expect that it will be.

The change to XML has been better as we have been given in time the specifications and a draft working example, but we still need to be able to test a Batch file.

Can anyone give odds on systems being ready for 2011/12?

    Hello all

The Data Service has published a draft LARA table relationships for 2011/12 document that illustrates the relationship between the main tables used within the system for a Learning Aim and Framework. You can find it at http://www.thedataservice.org.uk/News/enhancements_dc_systems/.

It is not intended to be a complete representation of the relationships between all the tables included within the downloads available. The definition of the contents has not been finalised at present and this document will be subject to change before being issued as a complete definition. We will keep you updated as this happens.

I hope you find it useful

Has anyone managed to download a LARA with anything in it? I have tried today to download the MDB version, but it is only 13 bytes, the zip has nothing in it. I thought I would try the archive page, but that just lists files that are 'available', however there is no way of downloading them that I can see?
